Classical Electricity and Magnetism: A Contemporary Perspective
Published in Hardcover by Allyn & Bacon (June, 1987)
Average review score:

Unspeakably awfulProbably the worst electricity and magnetism textbook ever written. We used this for an intermediate level class, and not a single concept was adequately or reasonably explained. Wording is ambiguous, explanations and problem sets are unclear, and there are countless fundamental errors, both conceptual and mathematical. This book is so bad that it makes their Mechanics text look good by comparison.

An Explosive Matter
Published in Paperback by Writer's Showcase Press (December, 2000)
Average review score:

An Apalling MatterThis book is tedious, has little direction, and is badly written. Entitled "An Explosive Matter" the book briefly summarizes fuel tank explosions. Drawing facts from earlier aircraft accidents, the authors offer little analysis beyond 'there was an empty fuel tank, a spark, and then an explosion - empty fuel tanks are hazardous'. After this 'analysis', the authors go on to criticize recent advances in aviation such as ETOPS, and the reduced 2-pilot cockpit arrangement in more recent airliners. The two-sentence justifications made in support such criticisms are total garbage. The extensive use of capitals and exclamation marks do nothing to improve the appeal of the book which is plagued by frequent factual inaccuracies (e.g. KAL 007 being shot down in 1996, and the combined death toll of SR111 and TWA #800 being 659 deaths) and both spelling and grammatical errors; I still find it hard to believe that NTSB is spelt wrong over 5 times!

Ink on His Fingers
Published in Paperback by Greenleaf Pr (September, 1993)
Average review score:

Gutenberg or Fantasy? The known facts about Gutenberg need no dramatic license. The inventor of modern printing was a fascinating,wide-ranging genius in constant need of lawyers and lenders. His true story is one which deserves to be served without any fictional seasoning.
Unfortuately, Louise Vernon's INK ON HIS FINGERS mixes the author's imagination with history. One cannot tell which is which without prior knowledge of Gutenberg's story. Since no revealing insights or unique interpretations are provided by the author, the reader is left with a historical book in which historical fact is not clearly presented. A child reading it may well enjoy the entertainment of the narrative. However, the chance to gain information while being entertained is lost in the muddle.

Journalism and New Media
Published in Hardcover by Columbia University Press (15 August, 2001)
Average review score:

Only for rookiesPavlik wrote a great part of this book in his Palm, as himself said. It must be true, because only by this way somebody can write a book about such an exciting subject with so little intelligent speech.
This book it is only a collection of facts and figures for rookies, not for people interested in new media and journalism.

The Joy of Bird Photography: From Your Backyard to Exotic Locations, Learn the Secrets and Techniques for Taking Great Bird Photos
Published in Hardcover by Gulf Publishing (June, 1998)
Average review score:

Poor quality photos, limited useful adviceAbove all a book on bird photography should have good pictures of birds. This book fails miserably. Many of the photos are grainy, out of focus,or under exposed. This is an amateur book written by an amateur photographer. - Do we really have to be told that a telephoto lens "Causes a subject to seem closer than it really is"? The images on the included CD bird screen saver are of the same poor quality. Save your money, or better yet buy Arthur Morris' "The Art of Bird Photography".

Mastering the Vic 20
Published in Paperback by Simon & Schuster (Paper) (October, 1983)
Average review score:

This book sucks!!!!I was extremly disappointed in the lack of hands on teaching contained in this book. First of all it was to expensive. Do you realize how much ice cream I have to scoop to make $12.95 ? I have been working at the Green Gables for almost 15 years but it still takes me 4 hard hours of making H-Bombs for people like that fag weather man to make $12.95. Second of all I have been looking for a way to put windows 95 onto my Vic 20 since 1995 and nobody can show me how. Another frustrating thing is that my friend gave me a bootleg copy of office 97 and for some reason everytime I try to load it, it gives me memory errors. Thats a bunch of bull crap because my Vic 20 has 8k of memory which is more then enough to run office. None of these problems were addressed in this stale book. Another friend of mine named Bill gave me a copy of Armymen for my 65th birthday. Again when I loaded it it screamed about memory space. The sons of bitches that wrote that stupid Armyman program don't know what the hell they are doing. My Vic should load it with no problem.I took 10 years of computer training at Morningside College. If a expert like me can't figure this crap out, how do you expect nomal people to? Whats a man to do. I will never buy a book from this homo author Peter Vernon ever again.

Professional Surveyor's Manual
Published in Hardcover by McGraw-Hill Professional (01 April, 1997)
Average review score:

Professional Surveyor's ManualI found this book left me wanting for more "manual" type reference information. It is quite specific to Ohio area standards for highway and boundary surveys. It is not a good reference for beginners needing a "daily use" surveying manual.

A Promise Kept: Vernon Ravsten an Uncommon Man for Our Season
Published in Paperback by 1stBooks Library (February, 2001)
Average review score:

Eulogy to SmashMouth Football GurusA brave autobiographical attempt to transform the author's high school coach into the second coming of Lomardi. This "Inspirational Playbook For Life" praises such coaching gems as: "I said, 'Coach, I heard something crack and I'm afraid I broke it.' Coach replied, "I think the crack you heard was you breaking that kid's leg. They're getting an ambulance and a stretcher to carry him off the field." Then (with incredible sensitivity and inspiration,) "Coach looked at me and said, "Go on, run off the field and be a hero," and more incredibly, "Well, we'll send him a card next week." The opposing quarterback they were referring to suffered a compound femur fracture in three places, and we learn "They may have to put a pin in his leg." The author's "coach" suffered the final misfortune of a drawn-out bout with cancer...an opponent nobody could knock out of the game. Pep talks evolved to Bob Richards' plagerism and football-as-life lessons. Enter inspiration. Danny White must have read a different manuscript before penning his introduction; for that matter, Couch must have played for a different coach than I did...I played 3rd string for Ravsten and his henchmen; I'd call my paean "Football Through the Earholes: Violent Lessons As Teenage Cannon-fodder "
